A forward may shoot threes all day long without getting shout at the coach. He can stay in the perimeter and in the lowpost. The job of the forward in my opinion is to help the big guys in rebounding and also to help the little guys in playmaking. For the power forward . . .these guys are expected to play in the lowpost
because the coach relies on them to crash the boards and block shots like the center.Generally pf are taller than forwards

you might be refereeing to small forward. The small forward, or, colloquially, "the three", is one of the five positions in a regulation basketball game. Small forwards are typically somewhat shorter, quicker, and leaner than power forwards and centers, but on occasion are just as tall. The small forward position is considered to be perhaps the most versatile of the main five basketball positions, due to the nature of its role. Most current NBA small forwards are between 6'5" and 6'11" in height. Power forward is a position in the sport of basketball. The position is referred to in playbook terms as "the four" position. while power forwards play a role similar to that of center in what is called the "post" or "low blocks". They play offensively with their back to the basket on offense and position themselves defensively under the basket in a zone defense or against the opposing power forward on defense in man-to-man defense.

A typical small forward is Peja Stojakovic. He could shoot the three and can rebound if needed. Tim Duncan is a typical PF, who goes to the post, rebounds and scores inside. Hope that's helpful info
