Easter is more of a time of rememborance, than a time of celebration. Personally I bleieve in capital punishment, but to answer your question. We do not celebrate the "punishment" Jesus Christ receieved but the fact that he rose from the dead, as predicted.

Christians celebrate the torture and death of Christ, everyone else unknowingly celebrates fertility, pagan style. You know, as Christ and the two thieves were crucified, in the background, if you look close, you can see the distinct form of a careless bunny eager to deliver his goods. Christ, can't christians find more important things to ***** about? I know, you can tackle abortion vs. the death penalty,or free will vs. censorship. You know, use your god given intellect for something other than telling people what they aren't allowed to do? Why not make god interesting and relevant for a change? Instead of turning people away from Him and saying that right now a revival within the body of Christ is happening? My God never took vacations.

one of the ten commandments states 'thou shalt not kill'. Are you a killer? Just because the state is doing it for you doesn't absolve your complicity. in other words, go to hell
