Africa - the Nile, 6690 km
Europe - the Volga, 3668 km
South America - the Amazon, 6516 km
North America - the Mississippi-Missouri, 6019 km
Asia - the Yangtze, 6380 km
Australia - the Murray-Darling, 3750 km
The longest river ever was (probably, nobody knows for sure) the Amazon-Congo. When Africa and South America were joined the Congo probably flowed into the Amazon (scientists think this because the Congo appears to have once been much higher up), which would have flowed into the Amazon basin, which would then have flowed west (the opposite way to it does now) as the Andes didn't exist at the time. This river would have been around 12,000 km long.

Wow thats scary. A single number listed on wikipedia is now the official answer.
Real life education would be hopeful. 'Active' rivers change length
every minute. N/S America the Mississippi and the Amazon rivers would be good examples.
Also rivers are influenced by tidal actions. So the simple 'average'
length is obtained by various means at various times. There is no 'true' answer for rivers which change by kilometers daily. ALTHOUGH it is amazing to watch(and amusing to read if you're familiar with Mark Twain).
