What about gun shows? Do vendors check or care?

I am a California Resident (legally with Drivers License) and I'm 20 yrs old. I have never been convicted of a crime, so I believe I would pass a backround check with flying colors.
Now, California has some of the toughest Gun laws of most any other state...
-10 day waiting for handgun
-21yrs of age to purchase handgun
-handgun safety class certificate
-only 10 round mags for acps

I have called a gun store in vegas, and they stated that I could not purchase a gun from them with my California State ID. I have since read online that in the "Brady Campaign", Nevada currently does not do backround checks at gun shows, leading me to believe that it would be easyer to get a handgun from them.

If you are buying the gun from a private person in Nevada, he can sell you or your dad the gun. However, if the seller is a gun dealer, he can still sell you the gun but would have to ship it to another gun dealer in your home state. Since you live in California, you run into other problems as well. Once you take possession of the gun, you are required to register the gun in California. The gun must be on California Approved Gun List. If it is not an approved gun, you run the risk of having it confiscated. Many dealers are refusing to ship a gun to California because of it byzantine and draconian laws. Your dad could probably buy the gun and have it shipped to Utah far more easily than you can buy the gun and get it past the california laws.

Wow all 3 of you are wrong so far. Here is the real answer. As long as you're legally allowed to buy a gun, you can buy a long gun out of state. You most certaintly do not need to be a resident to transport it across state lines! As long as it'slocked up and unloaded you're protected by the "peacable journey" law. For handguns, you can buy it there but they have to ship it to an FFL in your home state where you go to pick it up. The receiving gun store will charge about $30 to provide this service.

As long as your not a felon, or have a history of violence on your record. All States require a background check for 2 weeks before you will receive the weapon.
