I have a preemie daughter who I had at 25 weeks. She was born at 1 lb. 4.6 oz. 4 months now she is at 4 lbs. 15 oz. and ready to go home in 2 days. Any advice for me and success stories of older former preemies. She will be going home only with an apnea monitor and she has stage 2 zone 2 ROP. Thanks for all serious answers.

My former neighbor found out she was pregnant & delivered the same day-at 6 months! When I met her daughter ,she was 9-just the cutest thing! She wore glasses (this was 20 years ago) Such a delight! Also-she was tall for her age! There was no apnea monitor back then-just a careful Mother! Much love to you & baby. You and she will do just fine!

A friend of mine had a baby at 26 weeks. He is 11 or 12 today and very healthy, though he does have some behavioral problems (pretty common so I've heard with micro preemies). I also met a little girl who was born at 23 weeks-- absolutely NO lasting problems whatsoever. However at 23 weeks to have no problems, that is pretty rare.

Your daughter has a better chance at having a normal life than boys, though, because girl preemies do better than boys statistically. Good luck!

My three children were all preemies. My 10yr old was 3 1/2 weeks early at 9lbs 7oz, my 13 yr old was 3 1/2 weeks early at 9lbs 9oz. Both were healthy. My oldest is now 15 and was born at 32 weeks gestation, he weighed 7lbs 1 1/2 oz. He spent a month in the hospital and also came home on an apnea moniter. The moniter helped ease my mind, learn to love it, it will be your friend. Today he is a happy, healthy young man! I wish you all of the best!!!! God Bless You.

Well, my daughter was a preemie, but she was only 3 weeks premature. But I do have a lot of friends who have had babies very early, such as your precious lil girl - and the babies are cute lil chunkers now!

That is amazing that she has gained that much weight! How old is she?

One gal had to have her daughter by c-section because of her blood pressure. The baby only weighed 2lbs or so. She now weighs over 13lbs and is the happiest lil gal I know!

As far as advice - make sure that you receive specific instructions on what to do with the baby's equipment, ask for things to look out for, signs to watch for, etc. Make sure you understand everything.

Congrats on your baby coming home!

I have a friend who's son was born at about 25 weeks. We were pregnant together and due at about the same time. It was really touch and go for awhile and the little boy had to have heart surgery. He is very healthy, happy and such a delight now at 15 months. I'm glad you are bringing your little girl home now.

My five grandsons were premature. The twins passed away shortly after their birth at 18 weeks gestation. Paul held on until 20 weeks as my daughter had a cerclage sewn in. Paul lived also only a few hours while we sang to him, said prayers and passed him among his family. Then came George! 23 weeks and 1 day, he decided he had to be born despite two cerclage stitches to prevent it! One pound seven ounces, 3 brain bleeds, aPDA surgery, hernia repair, countless infections, antibiotics, ventilators, CPAP, helmets, eye covers, ear covers, clogged airway tubes and 135 days later - 41/2 months, he came home on oxygen. He was born September 14, 2009 and I write this on march 13, 2014. He is a doll and the love of Grandmas life!! He is witty and funny and smart! He has speech problems and some fine motor difficulty. He had eye surgery at 2 years old and has chronic lung disease. Who cares? He is a miracle! They told us "love him while he's here" - that will be way longer than they expected!
