...if it isnt already? for me i think pre-marital sex is morally wrong, and shd be made an offence. but i wan to be open abt this, so wat do u think?

2006-10-31 19:50:13 · 16 answers · asked by Faridah W 2 in Politics & Government Law & Ethics

This is a debate for my class(project). yes, my moral belief is that pre-marital sex shd be made an offence. and i know different ppl have different perceptions and morals. If it is consented btw 2 ppl, maybe its ok. If it's a rape(still considered pre-marital sex anyway) then it SHD be made an offence. And if u think that something morally wrong shd not be against the law, let's think of murder, theft, et cetera et cetera

Pls dont take any of my opinions the wrong way. I respect ur opinions and ur viewpoints.

Well, it would have been nice had you used spell check first...
Your question is hard to read for those of us that actually speak and write in English...

So my answer to this is, which marriage were you speaking of???
I am on marriage number 3 and at my age it would be foolish to act like a virgin this far into my life...
I know others that are in their 5th marriage; you think they should wait too???
Just exactly how much holier are you than the rest of us???
My previous 2 marriages had the exes walk out on me because of cheating, and I was not at fault...
So we should study that aspect more don't you think???
I do not agree with your logic or attitude... Sorry...
You could never make it work...
How would you ever prove it???

Many forms of pre-marital sex are illegal in the United States.

First, an adult having sex with an adolescent is considered statutory rape. Since a minor cannot enter into marriage in many states without the consent of their parents, then this form of pre-marital sex is illegal.

Second, many states have laws against sodomy. This means that gay men who have sex (this sort of sex is considered sodomy) are performing a criminal act. Since gay men cannot be married, the two of them having sex is illegal.

Third, any sex that involves the exchange of money is considered prostitution. The vast majority of the time, this sex is done outside of marriage.

As for whether or not pre-marital sex should be illegal...

Even if it is decided that it being made illegal is the right choice to make, there are a whole slew of problems that come with it.

How would this ban be enforced? Are police officers going to search the bedrooms of non-married people randomly or each night? Or if a neighbor calls, do the police enter your home to see if you are having sex? Should hidden microphones and cameras be used to catch people having pre-marital sex? Should under-cover officers pose as people willing to have sex and then arrest those who try to have sex with them?

If you do believe that pre-marital sex should be illegal, then there are many, many other questions you will have to answer.

What you believe is morally wrong is not necessarily everyone's belief. This sounds like this is your religious/cultural belief. Please remember that you are speaking from your perspective only and not everyone is a part of your religion or culture.

In many parts of the world whether or not to have sex before marriage is a choice of two consenting adults - it's their bodies and their choice. They believe that you cannot legislate sex.

You say you believe that people should wait until marriage to have sex. Do you also believe then that sex is a "right" within marriage or a choice? Do you believe that a husband has a right to demand sex from his wife even if she doesn't want to have sex with him at that particular time? If a husband forces his wife to have sex do you believe that too is an offense?

Okay sweetie, I can see that you are a bit open-minded so I will be nice....No, premarital sex is not an offense, nor should it be. Yes, it is an offense in the religion of Christianity and I think Islam. But...the US of A is a country that has a separation of church and state, as well as freedom of religion, and it is up to the individual on the subject. I personally do not believe in a certain religion, not because I am a bad person, because I am open to ideas and do not wish to be controlled by other peoples ideas. I respect everybody ideas unless they hurt people in the process..which means I am not evil as you might think because most people think of those without religion are evil, but in reality, we are normal people that think outside the box. I am glad that you are open about this subject and not forcing your opinion on others...The reason I accept pre-marital sex is because if two people feel love for each other, why can't they show it? Maybe those people do not want to ever marry, are you gonna force them to do so in order to show each other their feelings whether you understand it or not? Maybe they wish to make love, and leave each other....maybe those two were not ready for each other but the love they showed for each other really meant something and they were able to express that in a way that is not expressed in words. I am probably not making sense, but if you have experienced it you would understand, what you do not know, you do not understand.
Wow, whatever, what I meant to say, is that if two people love each other, why make them get married to show it, they should be able to have sex when and if they choose to do it.

between two adults? No, it shouldn't be an offence because it is a natural thing for humans to do. Before marraige ceremonies existed, humans still had sex. Your view that it is morally wrong is related to religion, I'm sure and there are thousands of different religions in the world. What should matter is what is best for each person, not whether a piece of paper fits your description of 'morally right'.

Look Ian a practicing Roman Cathlic. Thei are a hundred things in our culture that offends every religion in some way or another, This is where the true test of faith comes in. I am sure300 years ago fornaction was easier for zealots to control. THROUGH ostricizing, shaming, jaling, and killing. Yet they were not doing the work of God. Mankind will always abuse power. People charging others of indecent acts for revenge, to get out of a debt , reasons go back to the times men 1rst walked the earth,
God judges the heart, Men are prone to pettiness. Let other live as they please as long as they are not hurting others, (prudrish outrage aside) It is not the Governments job, your, or mine, to dictatate peoples sex life.
On some level we can all be hypocrites to our orn faith, So Judging is a dangerous thing. Jesus said "Judge and you too shall be Judged) along with ( My Father Will show you the same mercy you showed others"
As 4 being hypercrit. Catholic do not believe in abortion. Yet just a short while ago my 15 year old daughter told me she had unprotected sex, After I finnished spelling ouy all the dangers and blah blah I took her out and bought her morning after pill, I would feel worse if I was always shooting off my mouth telling others that option is evil and and should not be available to them. Besides if I am going to force a woman to give birth when she does not want to, I would forever feel responsable for that childs well being. Mary

No. Not an offense.

Better to not know if it happened, like it used to be.

Sometimes the girl would get married behind the church when she obviously was carrying and showing, so they didn't bother with the formalities.

It evolved into...Let's sample it first, and if we enjoy it, well then, lets go through the ritual.

By putting the cart before the horse, like what's now the mood of the people, everything else went upside down with it.

And so, we now live in "What's wrong is right"!

Amazing.

You are not happy with it being just morally wrong, you feel it should be a crime. No offence but people like you should butt out of others business and just preach to your own tribe of Nazi's! No offense but where do people like you come from, this is the stupidist quesion I've heard in a long time. I bet you are on the Right, aren't you, good grief!

No that's ridiculous, I don't believe in marriage so does that mean I should never again have sex with the man I love? We've been together for 5 years and are still madly in love but have no plans to get married.

Well I think masturbation is morally offensive, so we should make that against the law too. I also find it morally offensive for people to wear make-up or shower, so we should make that illegal too. I also think it is morally wrong to educate children, so schools should be illegal. In fact lets just make sex, reading, writing, and creativity illegal just to be on the safe side. I love this free country that we live in! Let's go kill some terrorists and make laws for them too wooooooooooo.
