If you want to be a great graphic editor/designer, I recommend you to use Adobe Photoshop. It's simple and mostly basic. There's plenty of communities that support photoshop. Most people use it too. There's a trial on Adobe's official site (see source for link) and you have to pay for the full version.
If you don't want to use photoshop like most people, you can use Corel's Paintshop Pro, which has a bit similar features to photoshop. Kind of different. You also have to pay this for the full version.
If you want a program that doesn't cost anything, see Paint.NET but you need NET Framework 2.0.

If u want to be a good graphic designer u must have a good creativity.whith the help of softwares u have to submit ur creative ideas. so always try to improve ur creative ideas and observation. u asked abt softwares.......learn photoshop,coreldraw or illustrator, page maker.these ar main print media softwares.all the best
