Cold packs or ice packs help to decrease edema (aka swelling). You could lay down and elevate your legs (above your heart level). Do some ankle pumps to improve circulation. Take anti-inflammatory medication (swelling usually indicates inflammation). Work on improving the range of motion in your knees to decrease the damage to your back. When im achy or swollen, i take a long hot bubble bath. you can go to the store and get "epson"salt(not sure about spelling) be sure to read the back of the pkg! get it in the bath/beauty section!
