The big in Asia are, presently, Japan and China. Indonesia has a great potential and an honesty of purpose.. but no 'greatness' yet in Economy. Growing well. Best wishes.

Biggest in terms of? In terms of size, Indonesia cannot be the biggest since it is only 1/4th of the USA. As for population, Indonesia might surpass the US one day to claim no 3 (they are currently at no4), considering the government doesn't really have any effective planned pregnanies and low-income couples still have as many as 6 children. As for superpower, it will be hard for Indonesia to achieve that. The wealth of the nation comes mostly from natural resources and these resources have mostly been sold to foreign companies to cover their massive debts. Indonesia in 2005 became net importer of oil for the first time even tho it is a member of the oil-producing OPEC. Heritage itself will not make a nation powerful, but education and effective government can. Indonesia is ranked as one of the most corrupted countries in the world. Starting businesses in Indonesia is very hard, foreign investment has only trickled back to Indonesia after the 1998 monetary crisis.
In conclusion, they have a looong way to go before becoming the "biggest" country in Asia. GDP is still below a lot of other Asian countries like China,
India, Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Thailand.

There is no more populated place than Asia, and there are some big boys on the block in Asia:
Japan, China, India, Pakistan, Korea, Taiwan, Russia(most of its territory is in Asia), Turkey, Israel, Singapore, Malaysia...and all for various reasons...some for military, others for economy, others for population...even some for alliances & geography...
I would have to say unless something major happens, and I don't mean militarily only...I wouldn't consider Indonesia a major player in anything apart from being the most populous muslim country in the world...it doesn't have lifelong friends...it has no one falling over themselves for investment...sure it has natural reasources like oil etc, but without a big bold plan for the next 25 years to take advantage of all it has...I see it falling by the wayside to any and all of the countries listed above......don't get me wrong I have no problem with Indonesia, and I hope you take no offence at this, but a few examples are India's bid to expand its influence militarily in the oceans and have the 3rd biggest surface fleet within x amount of years...I even remeber reading they may have the 3rd most aircraft carriers of any navy...etc...lets not even mention their nuclear ambitions...another example is China's 3 Gorges Dam project...to bring power to millions and millions of farmers in the countryside...and its expansion plans and its massive manpower...same as India's manpower...all service calls divert to India these days from Australia and the U.S.A., England etc due to the common link...the English speaking Indians...
Australia doesn't have that massive population, but it has the allies, strategic location(ie,U.S. satellites etc), the resources:
Australian boom in metals, uranium and gas etc etc is becoz of China's expansion(see above)...we obviously needs big projects here too in Australia(we're in drought everywhere and aren't allowed to wash our cars with running water etc etc!!)...
...also, nuclear ambitions of several countries...you don't see Indonesia in the news for any of the above...
Yes Indonesia has a lot of potential...but the world is full of unfulfilled potential...and due to the above points (& I mean no malice in my comments)......they are still a poor 3rd world country.
I see any big power/influence in world affairs as a fare way off, if at all for Indonesia - unless there is a big change towards the better for them and to their advantage...which is unlikely.
- I hope u see this as a balanced view.

Mustn't whant to be biggest, must whant to be same than the 51% of all countries of the earth.I know that the posibility of developpement exists
when 50%+1 of mens understand it. If more than 50%+1 don't understand the developpement, they can barricade the developpement.
