I have a 4 month old daughter who just hates tummy time. Everytime I go to lay her on her tummy for this she lays there for a few seconds then she starts to scream. I even bought her one of those mats to lay on with the toys and pillow to help prop her up and she still does it. I know that they need tummy time to develope muscle and stuff. So please give me some ideas to try. Thanks in advance.

Get down on the floor with her.

I propped my baby girl over my boppy nursing pillow and layed/sat down on the floor with her. I showed her toys, read her books, talked to her, did baby massage, sang songs, put on a Baby Einstein DVD whatever it took.

Good luck!

Well I have a 3 month old who does the same darn thing, and I read on a website that the reason babies don't like tummy time so much is because they are always on their backs, and tummy time is something new and it's uncomfortable for them (because it is such hard work for them) - and they could feel abandoned and scared. If you do it right after they just ate it could make their tummy hurt. And if the baby is cranky it will make them even crankier. So it's best to do it about an hour after a meal while they are awake and happy.

But what I've been doing with my daughter is although they recommend 30 minutes a day, I don't want to just wham her into 30 minutes of screaming because that might discourage her. So what I started doing was starting out at 1 minute. I do this 3 times a day. Let her lay on the blanket or what have you, for a minute, 3 times a day. Get down on the floor with her and face her and be silly and try to distract her.

Next day I go for 2 minutes at a time, 3 times a day. The next day I go for 3 minutes. Everyday I increase the tummy time 1 minute so it helps the baby get used to it and she's not just shoved into something she can't do. Then eventually you can work up to the 10 minutes at a time for 3 times a day, which would get you at the 30 minutes per day. After that is up to you.

I've also heard that rolling a towel and sticking it under neath her chest and armpits with her arms in front of her also helps, especially if they have good head movement. You gotta work on arm strength now!

Hope this helped! Good luck!

My daughter is exactly the same!!! She is 7 and a half months old and HATES to be on her tummy. I was worried at first but now it actually doesn't bother me. She has started spending more time on her tummy only now with me sitting by her and entertaining her but still by no means a lot of time (maybe 10 minutes if I'm lucky). She is a very strong girl despite the fact that she has spent no time on her tummy as a four month old. Don't stress yourself out too much as every baby is different and maybe she just does not enjoy being on her tummy like my daughter. A good alternative is to put her in a walking ring. My daughter loves it and she has built up a lot of mucsle and strength with that.

How about you lay down on your back on your floor, and place her on top of you, on her belly, facing you, and start making funny faces, etc. She'll probably feel more comfortable on you and seeing your face - and she'll still be getting tummy time. Good luck.

My daughter loves to lay on her stomach on my stomach and I'll just hold her and talk to her and stroke her back and hair. It's helping her hold her head up and all on her own since she likes to try and look at me. Maybe it would help your daughter. Maybe she'll start to like being on her stomach since she likes being close to you and you'll be able to slowly get her to lay on the mat like that.

YOU SHOULD TALK TO HER PEDIATRICIAN ABOUT IT, YOUR RIGHT , SHE DOES HAVE TO BE ON HER STOMACH TO BUILD UP HER MUSCLES.
