To answer your question, I'd say YES. Like Don J said, its getting up there. Over the past few years this rivalry have been heating up. Every soul in New England clears their schedule whenever these two teams play, as I'm sure its the same in Indiana. They have been the best and most consistently good teams over the past few years, and everybody wants to see two powerful, evenly matched teams go head to head. Its Pats vs Colts, Belichik vs Dungy, Brady vs Manning, its beggining to feel like a classic here in New England, and its just getting better every year.
I'm sure some of you will disagree, and I can appreciate that.
They may not have reached the level of the Redskins-Cowboys or the Bears-Packers rivalry just yet, but its only a matter of time.
If all 3 games were on tv at the same time, which game will you look forward to see? As of Nov 1st, The Redskins (2-5) and the Cowboys (4-3) are both mediocre teams still trying to find their identities. The Bears (7-0) will pound the Packers (3-4) into submission.
Patriots (6-1) vs Colts (7-0) best rivalry in the NFL TODAY?
Most definitely.

Over the last past 4-5 years you could say that it is the rivalry of the two biggest powerhouse teams.
As far as biggest rivalries go though, the longest and biggest rivalry in the NFL is probably the Bears vs. the Packers. That rivalry probably goes back to about the 1930's.
To be honest, us Colts fans probably consider the Patriots vs. Colts rivalry much more seriously than the Patriots do. The Patriots win most of the time because most of the time the Colts have to play in New England and New England rarely plays here.
The Patriots probably regard us like we do Jacksonville. Jacksonville thinks the Colts vs Jacksonville is a humongous rivalry because we always stand in their way to the Super Bowl. We think the Patriots vs. Colts is the biggest rivalry because the Patriots normally stand in our way to the Super Bowl.
However with the Patriots vs. Colts you are normally pitting the two toughest teams in the AFC or NFL against each other and probably also the two toughest quarterbacks in the NFL against each other.
I'm sure that you'll hear differing answers based on which team the person roots for. Washington fans will probably say Dallas vs. Washington...etc etc.

That's a pretty good question. It actually made me stop and think for a second because I automatically thought "Redskins and Cowboys" before I had a chance to read the details in your question. In terms of today's game, and in terms of the general public, I think you're absolutely right. Redskins and Cowboys fans get incredibly into the games when those two teams clash, but as a whole, the general NFL audience doesn't get into it as much. But games between the Colts and Pats are really interesting for fans of all sorts considering their past clashes, the high profile players on both teams, etc. For me, being a fan of the Redskins, I'm more into their rivalry with the Cowboys, but if you were to look at the NFL as a whole, and try to throw bias and favorite teams out the window, I think Colts and Pats take the cake.

I believe it is turning out to a great rivalry. however this a rivalry created by the media. As far as the best ever it has to be the bears and packers, and close behind them would be the Yankee's-vs-red sox's. The thing this rivalry is....... when these teams are doing poorly u do not hear anything about this game. that is why it is a good rivalry not the best rivalry in the NFL.

I think you are crazy. If you weren't a colts fan and so focused on your own team you would see all the other rivalries that are TRUE Rivals and bigger. Come on the Browns ans Steelers are still bigger rivals, and lately they have been on opposite ends, although the Steelers aren't getting the luck this year and have refs against them. Don't call that whining because I'm saying bad calls have hurt them and if you watched the game against Oakland you could see CLEAR wrong calls were made. I go easily fing other Rivals that are bigger. Oh and with them not even being in the same division it won't compare to Yankees and Red Sox.

Despite what others are saying, I really think it is getting right up there with some great ones that is for sure....
As someone may have mentioned, these things change according to the situation of the teams. Someone mentioned Packers-Bears but except if you live in Chicago, that was never as big as Packers-Vikings, simple reason that the Vikes have been more consistantly winners than the Bears.
If you asked that 10 years ago many would have said Cowboys-49ers, but too many bad years and SF has faded from view. Let us not forget one that goes WAY back, Denver-KC!
Dallas-Washington is another one which is "fading" because of the consistant failure of the Redskins to produce a quality team over recent years.
But right now, Colts-Patriots IS a good one and we are all expecting to see that one again THIS year in the playoffs..........

It is not a division/fan-created rivalry (I agree that it's kinda media created), so I don't think it's as good as most others. However, as for being a power-house rivalry, it is quite good, as who doesn't enjoy watching 2 of the best teams duke it out, especially as it's impossible for them to meet in the SB.

No, I would have to say that Philly vs. Dallas is the biggest rivalry in the NFL today.

truthfully (im a pats fan) i dont see the pats having a rivalry with anybody at all.....i mean lets face it, they've only become "good" ever since the 2001 sb......i just look at it as a "good game" every year they play, they always bring good football...cant wait for the pats vs. bears game...i think it falls in the same category
