They say 6 to 12 months if you ask them about getting pregnant.
I've been off a year and not had a period yet, but I've been to the Dr and had an ultrasound for PCO (clear) & blood tests (also clear). Waiting for fertility clinic app now, as ovaries appear dormant.
My Dr said that if you're overweight, your fat stores all the bad hormones. I was size 18 & 5 foot tall - now back to 14 & still going.
So if you're coming off & don't want kids, think about what other contraception you want, and make sure you've got a healthy diet & fitness regime sorted to help clear the s**t out.

Most birth control causes some weight gain, but because of the headaches I would speak with your physician to see if there is something else you could get on. However, sudden and severe headaches are a frequent side effect...but that doesn't mean you should put up with them!
You are supposed to get it every 3 months, but I believe it stays in your system for about 6 months

It takes between 6 to 12 Months for it to leave your system.

I was on that and it sucks, I started in november of 2004 and had my last shot in feb. 2005and have not had a normal cycle since. All my pap test come back ok but that dam shot really f*c*ed me up. All tho some people return back to normal after a year of not taking the last shot.

I ended up having loads of time off work when I came off it. Periods from hell. Heavy, painful & messy! Not what I've ever had before in my whole life. Took 18 months for me to get back to normal. Have a load of empathy cos I really feel for you.

I answered a similar question to this tonight- I am glad you are getting off of it- I had one injection years ago- it took me almost 2 years to get over it, and for my body to straighten itself out again, sorry- good luck to you

It is not working for you. Get off it. I have had the injection before and it doesn't work for everyone. Everyone's body is different and when you have no more symptoms you will feel so much better. Don't stress too much. You will get better.

I don't think very long. I was on it for almost two years, and it seemed like I felt like a girl again shortly after my scheduled missed shot.

I had my last injection just over a year ago and I still haven't had a period yet.
