Ok see I use my laptop every night to chat with friends, but it always freezes my smileys and it doesn't let me get all my friends messages, They get mine and respond, but I can't see it! and it is onstantly signing me out without me actually doing the signing out part! Why does it do this? Could it be because my computer is so old? (its 4 years old) I have already cleaned my system and it did a virus scan, but it seems to be ok. What can I do!? I really need to keep in touch with friends and this is really bugging me! Help! By the way love you computer geeks! If you need any more info, on my computer just IM me, no actually just e-mail me for info on the computer!

it sounds like ur have mailware in ur pc i have a friend who use a 5 year old pc he had same problem as you i told him to download
A-SQUARED . when he scan the pc with this he found he had more mailware and trojans then what his other software missed

I can only guess but, a 5 year old computer probably has only 128 MB of RAM. Just not enough for todays memory hungry apps!
You didnt say just what brand of messenger you are using but the MSN (Windows Live) and the Yahoo messengers both use from 30 to 40 MB of RAM alone.
I would strongly consider a RAM upgrade to a minimum of 384 MB. 512 would be even better!

You may have a probelm receiving or sending signals thru the internal. It does depend on what connections you have, it's the network card, the wifi (wireless) card, modem, the phone line connections, the setting beteen your laptop & your isp (internet service provider). check with your isp, they can help to get to the bottom of this too.

Try REMOVING the IM and RE-INSTALL it. Also check whether their is a new IM version for you to download.
