Many viruses disable your antivirus.
First try a system restore, it probably won't work. Go to Start - programs - accessories - system tools - system restore.
Install Winpatrol and click the Startup tab, have a look and see what programs load on startup. All you want on the list are Windows and your firewall, anti virus and anti spyware.

Run full scans in Safe Mode, using your anti virus and anti spyware.

Before attempting to remove malware you must switch off System Restore as back up files will be hiding in there, and it will just restore itself. Go to Start - programs - accessories - system tools - system restore.
Run your anti virus and anti spyware in Safe Mode. To get into Safe Mode repeatedly press the F8 key after the bios screen loads but before Windows loads. You'll know if you made it because the screen will be at 800 x 600 and your pc will be slow.

Then beef up your security. Its easier to prevent malware getting on to your sytem in the first place rather than trying to remove it.

You need to install one firewall.
The Windows firewall doesn't stop malware on your pc from dialling out. Both these firewalls are free for personal use and stop unwanted incoming and outgoing traffic.

firstly what Wayne Y said is complete rubbish- routers do not slow computers down. Routers and hubs are a layer three edge device that are transparent to your computers operation.
Swap the hub with as many routers as you can and you will find that the problem still remains.
You may need to clean your registry, defrag your hard drives etc but also look at any programs you have recently downloaded. If you've picked up a worm then this will slow your computer down massively as it will now be tied up doing pointless calculations. Worms will not always be detected by AV, sometimes the infected program gives permission for your computer to be used by another person/PC and the virus itself lies in another computer. Delete anything you've recently downloaded that could be infected, if you start finding files that can't be deleted, chances are that you've found one of the culprits, if they still can't be deleted you could be best off doing a system restore.

Dear ! you have not mentioned which antivirus program you are using. Besides, any broadband connection is totally a different from your antivirus program but while browsing or accessing your antivirus programs keeps tracks of incoming and outgoing request you made on various sites.

The best answer to this question is to update the antivirus or reinstall, so that you will not face any problem in future.

Would appear to be something to do with the hub if the only change to your system is the hub.Check your antivirus homepage to see if there is any known probs or even try bt page for known issues.
