Once upon a time there was a prince who always seemed happy! Never did anyone see him pout or cry! His father the king and his queen mother were very proud of their son because he was so happy! He was not only happy but also very smart and handsome as well! All the maiden in the kingdom swooned over him.He only smiled at them all and never acted like he was any better than anyone else -even the most simple maiden. At the ball he danced with them all. As he grew older the king became worried that his son might not find true love as he himself had .One day the prince came to his father and asked if he could travel into distant lands. At first the king did not want him to go. The handsome prince begged his father until he finally let him travel to the distant lands. One thing that the king insisted upon was that the prince take along several traveling companions. So the prince chose seven brothers that he knew and could trust. Once they had gotten well on their journey the prince asked the brother who had very poor looks to wear his clothes-so they exchanged clothes, As they proceeded on their journey many people ran out to meet them. Most of the girls that they saw along the way was so impressed to see a prince- all they could see was the rich clothes that the prince(actually it was the traveling companion who dressed like a prince) wore! They came into a certain village and the prince saw a girl down by a lovely pool of water He asked his companions to go a little ahead of him and wait on him. This girl was so beautiful that she took the prince's breath away! He told her that the prince was planning to have an outdoor dance with much good food to eat and ask her if she would come. The beautiful girl sadly shook her head no and said that she only had simple clothes to wear. So the prince asked her if she would dance with him away from the others where they could still hear the music. He said " I will meet you by the pool." She told him that she would love that. Her heart beat so fast as she ran home to tell her mother. She thought that the young man she had been talking to was wonderful. Her friends made fun of her for being so excited to be dancing with the princes's companion. Each girl that came was going to be asked to dance with the prince. They had all heard a rumor that the prince was seeking a wife. Her friends were nice to her and gave her several gowns from which to choose to wear to the dance. She was looking at them when it was time for her to get dressed. Her mother walked in and saw her lovely daughter with such a glow on her face. The young girl was embarrassed for her mother to see her acting so silly over a young man. Her mother told her"my dear I have two nice dresses that you can wear one of them you must save for your wedding day and the other one you can wear tonight." The beautiful young girl got dressed to go to the dance. She was very shy so she was glad that she would be dancing away from the others! After getting dressed she looked in the mirrow and could not believe her eyes as she saw the person looking back at her. Her mother came in and was pleased to see her daughter looking so lovely. With a twinkle in her eyes her mother told her that she must be the most beautiful girl in the world. The young maiden went off with her friends to the dance. They were glad that she would be spending time with the princes's companion. They knew that otherwise they would have a hard time competing with her! The prince dressed in his best clothes. He fixed a tray of delicious food and took along some of his finest red wine. He was glad to be on his way to meet her by the pool. Seeing only saw a glimpse of her beautiful clothes he thought that she was some other girl. He started to walk away-then he heard her softly crying. "Why are you crying young maiden?' he asked. She failed to reconize him in his fine clothes. Oh I was going to meet your companion here by the pool and he has not showed up. "Don't cry my dear said the prince I did not reconize you dressed this way as I thought you would be in a simple gown." She gasped as she looked closer and asked;" why are you dressed like the prince!" "Surely you will get into trouble and you should not have done this for me, because I like you the way you are without being fancy and all. If you will only return the clothes and wear your simple ones I will go home and change back into my simple clothes as well." The prince laughted "oh my dear you must be the most wonderful girl in the whole world-will you be my wife I am the prince" The maiden passed out and fell into the princes arms. He took a cool cloth and dipped it into the pool and washed her face. After she came to they shared the food and fine red wine and then they danced for hours. He took her home and meet her mom at the door. She explained that the young man she had cared for was actually the prince. Her mother laughted and said;" I know why shouldn't the daughter of a princess have a prince." Her mother had left home as a young girl and ran away with the man she loved. The prince took the young maiden and her mother back to the castle to stay. The king and queen were so pleased that their son had found true love!
