I did it for the same reasons you did it. I don't want crazy people (I guess we can call them that), IM'ing me. It goes the same with my other information. I like privacy and I don't want to talk to any wacko. I'm NOT saying all Y!A people are crazy, you're gonna meet crazy people anywhere in general, but I at least want to keep my privacy in the one place I do enjoy, which is answering questions in Y!A.

I prefer to keep my privacy.
Yahoo answers is all about trying to help others and expressing your own opinion, although some peoples opinions can go overboard sometimes.
My e-mail address is for those whom I have established relationships with from other places and IM works the same way.
I don't intend to establish a relationship with anyone here on yahoo answers which is why I disabled those functions.

My life has been filled with situations where I became the center of others attention, both good and bad. There is also a security issue to be dealt with on the computer I am using.

When I was in Level One I received 2 or 3 IMs calling me a racist and names because they didn't like my answers. I'm not a racist and just because I believe that anyone coming into the USA should come here legally and not sneak in like a thief. I welcome any Mexican who comes to the USA legally for a better life.
On the IMs I was recieving I decided not to accept any more because of a few idiots.
I had one idiot today that didn't like the comments I wrote him on his question and retaliated by asking another question degrading me to others. I was totally amazed at the answers he was receiving on that question from others backing me up instead of agreeing with him. In all, I had only told him in a polite way that he was a hair brained idiot.

I was getting harassed by hateful people that would not leave me alone so I made myself unavailable. It was a nightmare, first they would start out all nice and then their hateful words would just baffle my mind. Now I am only here to answer questions. :)

For me it just depends...I hate it that just because you answer somebodys question on here .. they think its ok to just IM you and start chatting..it wouldn't be bad but the majority types..."Wanna have sex"! GOD its annoying! I leave it so people can IM me sometimes..cause there is that rare occasion that somebody worth talking to you IM's you!
I know where your comming from!

I am too old to talk to children and too married to talk to stangers. I only allow IM with my family and friends that I have actually met in real life.

I've got a very selfish reason : I like my privacy.
When I want to talk online, I either go to my chatlists or here.
When I want to be on my own, I like to have complete privacy.....no windows popping up saying someone wants to talk to me. (and consequently me feeling guilty as hell for not responding)

I simply do not have the time for it unlike before, and I would prefer to keep my anonymity.
