My boyfriend thinks that spending $600 on the new PS3 isn't that big of a deal, but I think that is an insane amount to pay for a game system. How many people are actually willing to pay this amount and why? It just seems so out of control! On top of that he wants to camp out and buy them onthe day they are released to sell them on ebay for double what they cost! Will they actually go for that much?

He already owns the xbox 360...
and i'm not competing with his game systems. i'm a doctorate student, so i'm glad that he has his games so that I can study while he plays.
Also, he has the money to pay for these things, I just couldn't believe how much they cost!

well the main reason the system is expensive is that it has a built in Bluray Drive (which usually cost $1000 so sony is already losing alot of money per system) plus all the other stuff inside it so it is worth it
The only way to get it when it first comes out is to already preordered it or you camp out in front of the store that does not do preorders (such as Target) because each store is basically receiving about 8 PS3 unless posted otherwise
and since there is not that many PS3 on premiere, when sold out it will be worth more then twice as much
so i say if u need some extra cash just let him do it i know if he sells it he will get at least $1500 on ebay.

Boys will be boys LOL I'm a guy and i think that we have some little voice in our head that just pops up and says WOW!! this is a good idea We go buy the ps3 play it for a few days non stop then we think Hmmm yep my girlfriend was correct I did not need to spend this much money $600 is alot when your not on good money

He can camp out if he likes, but unless he has a pre-order, he ain't gettin' one on Nov. 7th when it arrives in stores. They're only shipping a million units in the initial shipment - that's world-wide, I think, not just to the US. They will absolutely sell for that much on ebay, because, as I said, there will not be enough supply for the demand. It will be a great machine, and does a lot more than just play games, so if you got the money it's going to be a good investment. There's a good chance that the only time most of us who couldn't pre-order it can get it is in the spring of next year. Good luck yo your bf, but tell him not to get his hopes up.

My boyfriend wants the new PS3, but he just got the xbox 360 and I don't think camping out again is such a great idea. I think the price is a little outrageous, but so are my handbags.

it's not the console that's worth the price, it's the games u play on it. there are plenty of up-coming major hits only on the PS3, not on any other console.
that's why
EDIT:one more thing; tell justin (that's his name, right?) to wait a little longer till christmas or something for a cheaper price tag.
and advice him to get assassin's creed, and stranglehold.......he'll love them

Tell him to buy Xbox instead. It play HD dvd as oppose to blu ray of playstation.
Don't compete with the video console for attention, look at it is as tool to get him off your back when needed.
