I'm American living in Norway. Halloween over here is catching on big during the past 7 or so years. I grew up loving halloween, but now I think it's a dumb holiday. I wouldn't bother getting my kids involved in it. It's stupid. Think about it, what is so great about ghosts, death, vampires, witches, etc? Halloween glorifies death. Not interested.

it is a celtic holiday, to celebrate the last day of the year on their calendars, it also was the day you honor your dead by setting a place at dinner for them. the idea of dressing up like ghosts, skeletons and such was to reflect the dead, and the giving of treats was to emulate the dinner for the dead. however the celts are gone and much like christmas its gotten commercialized, so buy lots of junk candy and silly costumes and dress the kids up and hand out candy and put out pumpkins with candles or lights in them. enjoy.

started as a celtic ritual, then the christians deciced it was bad so they changed the day to "all saints evening" which turned into "all hallows eve",then "hallows eve",then halloween.
