I have a computer now that it 6 years old. I need to update it but don't want to spend too much or get extras I won't need. I email, internet....pass pictures....would like to burn cds/dvds. I have Windows 98 currently. I am not the most computer savvy person obviously. I want to do some on-line bills and such but am afraid of theft, fraud...etc....would like a system that provides decent security as well. Is there a way to update my old system? Can I just purchase the tower....I have a flat screen moniter....good printer. Any help would be grand! Thanks!

For a pc user like yourself personally, and i know many will disagree, but Dell is probably the best. I find that they are the cheapest and may be cheaper than upgrading your current pc.

Well i know when i went from 98 to xp I did not like it one bit But now i would never go back . As for your tower Yes you can just replace the tower What you will have to do tho is get a new mother board ram and hard drive+ a dvd burner If your not playing games just get a cheap video card You can build a new tower today for about $300 to 600 And buy a good virus program I have never used del my self but some of the systems i have seen are how can i say ewwww Best of luck

most depedends of the use of the PC
in any case, I'd get a PC with lot of RAM.
the new Windows Vista (soon in the shops) call for 1 Gig minimun, but who tested it say 2 Gig are necessary for a smooth usage.
Cpu speed is very important for heavy apllications, like audio/video editing, 3D rendering etc, but not so much for surfing and/or office apllications.
A "state of the art" graphic card is important for gamers.
Lot of usb 2.0 ports will be usefull, as well as a firewire port.
Hard disks arent a problem anymore, they are cheap with high capacity. I'd only ask for a very silent one. It may sound stupid, but i'd spend extra money in fans. There is nothing worse that having a noisy fan on the CPU while you are watching DVDs
