Okay...i got a perscription for my son (amoxicillion - the pink liquid stuff). It said to give him "1 tsp. twice daily" Do I HAVE to wait 12 hours before i give him the 2nd dose of the day? i forgot to give him a dose when he woke up this morning and the first dose for today was at 7:00pm. i was wondering if i should wake him up and try to give him the 2nd dose and then resume the regular schedule tomorrow (once in morning and once at night). Anyone's help would be appreciated.

I would let it go today and start fresh tomorrow. Just don't forget to do it tomorrow (easy for me to say, huh?). Missing once today won't delay his recovery time too much. Tomorrow I would just make sure to give it to him first thing in the morning and right before bed. It doesn't have to be exactly 12 hours in between...but too close together might upset his stomach.

Get well soon, little guy!! ;)

Generally they when they say 2 times daily they do mean every twelve hours. It is so an even amount of medicine is in the system at all times. When you miss a done you are supposed to take it as soon as you realized you missed it unless it is time for your regular dose, at which you just take your regular dose and don't worry about the missed dose. If you are still worried though you can always call any 24 hour pharmacy and ask the pharmacist.

You can give it to him after breakfast and before he goes to bed, or something. It doesn't have to be exactly 12 hrs., but you shouldn't give it to him no more that 8 hrs. apart at least. That's just how I give twice a day medications anyway. You could call the pharmacist tomorrow to be sure how to give it though. I would just wait until morning to give his second dose.

No let him sleep he needs his rest. Start the dose in the morning again. The best times are in the morning when they wake up and before they go to bed. You dont have to worry to much about it. It will be fine.

When a medication states BID (twice daily) I would recommend:

8am and 8pm - 12 hours apart

If you miss a dose, just wait until the nest dose. If you miss two dosages, contact your doctor.

Good luck.

No, don't try to "make up" by giving a heavy dose. The usual spacing is at breakfast and dinnertime -- if you gave him a dose at 7 PM, give him the next dose with breakfast. Ptherwise you run the risk of overdosing.

My daughter is on that, and she takes 3/4 tbs 3 times day - and I give it to her at morning, noon, and night. For your son, I'd say just give it to him when he wakes up and right before he goes to bed. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember it, but don't double it up.

I usually do 7 am & 7 pm, the time itself does not matter just that your son gets it when it is time.

If you can't figure this one out, you're going to have a tough row to hoe for the next 18 years.
