You can define yourself through your accomplishments. What positive contributions were you able to give the world, to other people? When you die, how will people remember you? The trademark or imprints that you leave in other people's lives is a definition of yourself. Need I say more?

Yes. People should define themselves rather than "the world" define them by, say, establishing what is cool and what isn't or that women don't do this or short people don't do whatever or macho guys don't do something else.
People need to know who they are, build their own identity, and be who they are. If someone else tries to assume they're one thing or another, make sure to let that other person know it isn't correct.
