Really? Cause I've seen vids where feral cats and skunks are eating food together side by side... must be a mean skunk you got. They can climb trees (Spotted skunks). Sorry can't be of more help. What kind of skunk is it?

I think if you watch them in the wild they can hop from branch to branch.
