They can also give you a bad reference to a future landlord and it will hurt you in the future.

They will probably take away your deposit as well as request an additional months rent. In some cases they can make you pay for the entire amount of rent for each month that you will have cut them out for example if you have lived there six months then you would have to pay the full amount of six months of rent! If you were late on rent previously they may try to sue. But usually they only sue if they think you aren't 'good' for it.
It will also hurt you if you try to rent somewhere else in the future. So my advice would be to talk to them beforehand and come to a written agreement to cover your tracks and to legally protect yourself.

The worst thing that can happen is your landlord can sue you and get a judgment for all the rent you would have owed if you had not broken the lease.

Hopefully you didnt have too much longer on your lease, Im pretty shore youll have to keep paying the rent. If you dont they probably take you to court to get the money. Stay there if you can unless you didnt sign the tennant agreement. This happened to me etc. lost a couple grand from it.

if you give them one months in advance notice, usually some landlords pretty good, and you have nice relationship with them, than the worst thing could be they will ask you to pay for remanding your lease, usually they wouldn't sue, because will cost them more lawyer than you owe them.
