Windows 98 & ntldr missing??
Hmmm..
Been so long since I fooled with 98,I've forgotten any little I ever knew .

Anyway,,try this..............................

Go to
http://www.bootdisk.com/

Download a Windows 98 bootdisk onto a floppy disk.
Use one of the "OEM" ones

Put that disk in your HP & start pc
It takes a while

It'll eventually give you an old DOS/Command Prompt Screen

at the A:\> prompt type in

SYS C:

then hit Enter,,,,it'll copy the files then give a message that it's finished.

Remove the floppy and reboot

that should fix it.
.........................................
If Sys C: dont help...

Reboot with the boot disk,
and at the command prompt A:\>
Type in the following command

fdisk c: /mbr

hit enter,when it's finished,,rremove floppy & reboot

***Dont use MBR command if you have multiple operating systems installed,,like XP & 98,,
or if you have multiple partitions on that drive.

W-98 has a hidden copy of MBR (Master Boot Record)stored somewhere.
"fdisk" is FORMAT DISK command.

The "fdisk c: /mbr" rewrites the mbr from the archived copy,,,in a way that's almost like a semi-re-install or 1/2 re-format.
It can mess up Multi-Boot pc's or multi-partitioned drives

........................................................
If that does not work,,go here and follow the instructions.
But this is 2000/XP stuff,,not 98.
Ntldr errors are usually in XP or W2000.
There IS a ntldr in 95/98/me,,but I dont recall ever seeing errors from it??????????

Good luck,,hope that helps!

The resons might be -
1.Computer is booting from a non-bootable source.
2.Computer hard disk drive is not properly setup in BIOS.
3.Corrupt NTLDR and/or NTDETECT.COM file.
4. Misconfiguration with the boot.ini file.
5.Loose or Faulty IDE/EIDE hard disk drive cable

1 - Many times this error is caused when the computer is attempting to boot from a non-bootable floppy disk or CD-ROM. First verify that no floppy diskette is in the computer, unless you are attempting to boot from a diskette.

Make sure there is nothing in the floppy drive... that's the most common problem.
