Congratulations....

Bakeries are pretty happy places, but there's one issue that I'm aware of that can be a problem. If people order cakes with certain colors on them ask if they're school colors and whether they want, say, primary-color blue or baby blue.

Whether someone wants a graduation cake with school colors or a cake that will go with the color theme of the event, sometimes there can be misunderstanding about, say, what shade of blue someone is requesting. Also, ask if there are to be no additional colors added. (Someone I know asked for two school colors and the bakery added pastel green on its own.)

Lollipops for the kids, a tray of bite-sized samples (covered if possible), and dog biscuits to send home are always nice touches. So if a coffee urn.

One other bakery disaster I had myself: When ordering a Christening cake for someone I asked for a sheet cake and asked if there could be a simple silver cross (or some similar simple thing) in the center of the cake. Rather than tell me to bring in my own cross or whatever I may want on the cake, the bakery people hand-drew a giant, pastel, blue, frosting, cross that was quite bizarre. So if someone comes in asking for a certain type of thing on the cake if your bakery doesn't have such a thing just tell the customer and suggest he/she bring in something of his/her choice to be added to the cake (or else, keep a few simple religious and other event items around for the customer who has a special event and wants a simple, elegant, cake with a simple, elegant, decoration on it).

Good luck with the bakery.

Most bakeries seem to finish baking by early morning. So if I am not in the store at 7 in the morning, I can't get freshly out-of-the-oven bread or bagels. I have no knowledge or experience with running a bakery, but I know I love the chewy and toasty bread that just came out of the oven. So I would recommend baking bread during lunch and dinner time as well.

I would recommend you to get good advertisements. Like at the door of your bakery, you should put a sign saying "Huge-Sale" or something like that. And make sure that some of your customers tell their friends about your bakery. When a person walks into a store, they want to be comfortable and relaxed. So make sure you bakery is in a good and clean enviroment. Also, you and your workers should always have a friendly attitue.
