Okay, so I've been reading on stuff about stero-typing and I think, it's not too bad, but still hurts. I saw a special on 20/20 about stero-typing in the media... I was thinkin' Omg! I didn't notice how spread out stero-typing was especially the fact that Asians are "underrepresented." I didn't like it. But when I read a beauty book about Asian models: I didn't truly believe it. And it is true that in Japan, they mostly take blond girls over their own nationality. I thought if I go to Asia I'll have a better chance of being a model than here. Do people not like the looks of Asians or is it some other reason?

I find the opposite is true. Asian actors are getting more highprofile roles, and are being cast in some of the hottest shows right now (and not as "token" Asians either) Examples: Sandra Oh in Grey's Anatomy, the characters of Sun and Jin in Lost, Hiro in Heroes, Grace Park in Battlestar Galactica.

In movies you've got Gong Li who was already a huge star in China in two major Hollywood movies: Memoirs of a Geisha and Miami Vice. Ziyi Zhang has been in a string of movies, as has Michelle Yeoh. Lucy Liu made the transition from tv to film stardom. Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle. Chow Yun Fat is playing a pirate in the third Pirates of the Caribbean....and so on.

As for modelling, Audrey Quock was a Sports Illustrated model, you also have others such as Ling getting the major cosmetics campaigns. In dance/reality shows you have Carrie Anne Inaba watched by millions as the judge on Dancing With the Stars.

There are many, many more examples: the point is that if you truly want to pursue a career in the entertainment biz, its no tougher for Asians than it is for anybody else. If anything, it may even be easier for Asians than before because of the ones who have worked so hard to get cast for "colorblind" roles--like Sandra Oh and Grace Park. Good luck!

Well, tv shows like Heroes and Lost that have Asian actors who also speak in their native languages is at least very inspiring, and the extreme influence Asian cinema has on Hollywood is mind-blowing. Things are changing, and all we can do is embrace those who will help make progress. I wouldn't say that a blonde would do "better" in Japan, but to send over a fair haired, large breasted caucasion will make an impact because it is such a drastic difference.

Omg! i feel that way too...i'm thinking maybe because there are so many "fob"s out there that have those accents you know so they are more likely to be made fun more...Everyone in the media thinks asians don't have the acting skills or whatever to be up against with all those other celebrities...that's what i think...but yea Why aren't there many famous asians?

No, Asians are busy getting super-educated and becoming engineers and scientists and white collar professionals
