To confuse the issue say you didn't have any type of relationship with her at school. Say you barely knew each other and hardly spoke but had mutual interest (despite there being a popularity "chasm") but you didn't act until it was too late because of shyness and then discovered she had found someone new. You leave school at the end of that year never to return and to not lay eyes on her again.

Ask yourself what do you want? You still have feelings for this girl after all this time? If you approach this subject calmly and collectedly there shouldn't be a problem. Go for coffee or have dinner.
You have a life to live and many options and opportunities available to you. Your happiness does not solely depend on this lady. Good Luck.
