If you have the room, put the leaves in a black plastic bag and add about two cups of fertilizer. Seal the bag, poke some air holes in it and store it in your garage, shed or some such place. Come spring you should have a mulch that is a lot healthier than what you have now.

Do not leave leaves on the grass, they don't usually feed the grass just because the decay rate is not very fast. if you do leave them over the lawn, you might find patches of dead grass in the spring of next year that won't come up. however you can leave them over the planting bed as mulch to protect perennials from the cold. hope that helps.

Mulching is better for sure! Not only does it have all that " good stuff " in it,but it will make your lawn thicker. You can also use some of the leaves to cover and protect plants in the winter.

The best method of making use of leaves is shredding them with the lawnmower and to put layers of this material into the composter.
Or you can stuff a large plastic bag with the leaves, punch holes in the bag, to let the rain keep the leaves moist. When rotted down, dig the compost into your garden. Leaves are rich in minerals, which the roots extracted from the soil and which were stored in the leaves during the growing season.

hi Janet, i take advantage of a mulching mower. It has a bag attachment, that i take advantage of purely to hold jointly the cuttings that bypass off into the sidewalk and highway. the trappings I shop and compost with some airborne dirt and airborne dirt and dust, it particularly makes my bamboo improve sturdy. once you ask additionally approximately beginning problems, do you advise the soil that the grass grows in? i think of you assert that the backyard trimmings decompose offering a sturdy 'beginning' on your backyard, and that i agree (for the form of turf grasses that maximum householders have). the two way, the trappings shouldn't bypass interior the trash...
