I've owned & successfully operated two retail stores for the past 10yrs. I now want to do something different. I know its gonna take more education inorder for me to make at least $65k per year. I only have a BS degree in Psychology which will only bring in a salary of $30-$40. I've thought about pursuing a law degree, but do not want to be in school for another 4 years or more because I'm not a good test taker. I just don't know what to do. Please provide some good sound advice.

Have you tried applying for a county or state job with the prison system. They are always looking for Psychologist and of course the money is good and they have good benefits. Just a thought! I know that working for the government isn't the best in the world type of job , but then again, is not the worst either. You could work your way up the latter and attend school along with work and watch your retirement be taking care of. Good luck in what ever you decide.

You don't necessarily need more education to bank in 60k since you already have a degree. Moreover, a lot of employers nowadays, from what I've heard, are looking for sharp, outgoing and LIKABLE employees. It's not just that you have to have a degree and be intelligent, it also helps if you can communicate well. Which should work in your favor since you're obviously a good businessman. I think you'd be wasting your time going back to school. And law school should be something your crazily passionate about pursuing so if you're not, skip it. I think your life experience as well as your BS degree should snare you a good employer/company.
It all depends on what kind of career you want now. Also, for that 60k, just make sure you can prove you're with it and it might not be that hard to negotiate. Write down ALL your successes, ALL your strengths...even ones that seem trivial. Good luck!

Sounds like me..........

I will have been in the banking business for 15 years in 2007. This was just suppose to be a brief stop for a year or two. I will give myself 2 more years and re-evaluate what I want, should or need to be doing, at which point I will be 40.

I am actually calling it, my liberation from slavery. So with that said.....I am currently working on getting myself debt free and I will be totally free of debt in one more year. Hopefully with no debt I can save money, so that when I do decide to be liberated, I can at least afford to live, until I know what my plan B will be.

I think I am just exhausted with the rat race and corporate America.

I have thought about going to bartending school, so I can work and drink and party all at the same time. I thought about going to tax preparation school, so I can work at H&R Block, because every one needs their taxes done, so there is certainly job security there and you can work your own hours.

Perhaps I can do taxes in the day and bartend at night, who knows. I will never know, until I make that leap in the next couple of years.

I also thought about going back to the airline industry, at least that way I will have travel benefits and go back to seeing the world.

Afterall, I don't want to work and work and then hope to see and do things in my older age and then die, like most folks do that work forever and then retire. That is such slave mentality to me and I refuse to go out like that.
