Psychologically, a liar tends to look upwards and to the right when lying (if a person is trying to recall information, they look upward and to the left).
Also, the liar can scratch their nose, or eyes, or other part of their face without realizing it, whilst telling the lie.
Eye contact is a big tell-tale sign. If the liar is not able to look you in the eyes, then he/she's probably fibbing. This can also be deceiving though, because a seasoned liar will know body language is a giveaway, so they will make a point of looking at you in the eyes. The way to tell if they're lying is if they hold the eye-contact for TOO long than what would be normally acceptable. It means they're trying too hard to convince you.
Other tell-tale signs are a cough, a nervous laugh, etc.

Just to add to catwoman's answer, you need to find out which is their dominant side first. If they look towards their right, but they're left-handed, that means they're telling the truth and vice-versa. I think she mentioned this too, but I'll reiterate. The dominant side of the person's brain is their creative side, while the other side is storage for memory.
And as for lack of eye contact, that means diddily. Studies have shown that whenever men communicate, they don't necessarily make eye contact with each other (it's a guy thing) and they can be telling the truth the entire time. Also, there're cultures out there (certain native american tribes, for example) where if you communicate with them while you look them straight in the eyes, it's a sign of intimidation and disrespect.

a good liar cannot avoid this, his pupils will change size, just a little, but some, bad liars move around, look off to a distance, blink a lot sometimes, breath funny, have irregular heartbeats, and their neck probably wont stay that stiff and straight

When children lie, they would usually cover their mouths with their hands, as if to stop the lie from coming out. In adults, this movement is not so obvious, though it is still present to some degree. Watch out for people who frequently touch their faces while speaking.

Body language is a definate clue. Also the eyes diverting.
But, a person who is a pathilogical lier can lie as well as telling the truth. Then you get sociopaths who believe their own lies.

Just look at his/her eyes and their body (hand) movements...how they sweat ( if they do, means yes...they are lying), look at the way they think before answering one of ur questions, look how they look to the floor, sky but not directly to ur eyes...it is not easy to detect a liar, you have to be very careful but with these steps...you may be able to discover those lies...luck my friend!!!

Put their hands to the faces while they speak.
Look down and left...or is that up and right? Anyway it's the classic sign of trying to make up something.
Volunteer too much info
Blink much more frequently than people who are being truthful.

Mostly the eyes. If they look away when they talk, either they are very shy or lying. If they look away only part of the time, chances are hhey are lying.

there is no one defining trait that liars have in common, except for their reputations, which it is impossible to know fully.
that is why even fbi agents have such a hard time, think about it.
