Are you looking for a day trip or an over night trip? I only ask because I am from Illinois and I remember going to Washington D.C. in 8th grade.

The museum of communications in Chicago is great. They actually have a resource that allows students to look up old TV programs as well as a working TV news room where they can make a professional news program.

Give them a look at college life by visiting SIU at Carbondale or Edwardsville. Contact public relations for the chosen school and set up tours, presentations etc. Some student organizations may help.
