say if the cop came up out of nowhere and asked you when you had no previous relations with him/her.

No, but if He forced you to take drugs, and then busted you for possession, that would be entrapment.

The entrapment defense is entirely a creation of whatever jurisdiction (state or federal) you are in. Was it a fed? If not, what state are you charged in?

The best answer: talk to a lawyer. The GENERAL answer: you probably don't have a good entrapment defense. The California state law is as follows: If the cop acted in a way that would give a law abiding person a motive to do the crime (like appealing to pity, friendship, etc) and would make the crime unusually attractive to a normally law abiding person.

Here, you can be damn sure the cop knows the law before he approached you. It sounds like he just asked, and you said yes. That doesn't look like it will succeed the high burden of entrapment (at least for California).

The fact that you had no prior relationship with the cop seems irrelevant, unless other facts occurred that you are not stating here.

Sorry, pal. Hopefully the sale was for a small amount (i.e. misdemeanor)

Did you say anything to the officer that indicated you might want to buy drugs? If so, it is not entrapment. Entrapment laws are complex, and are not the same in every state. Be careful!

Yes. Some law enforcment agencies use this method of entrapment to convict offenders who might otherwise elude the system. It's commonly used in drug busts and prostitution arrests.

The wording is key

'Hey, I have some Grade A crack for $5. Let me give you a sample." would be entrapment.

You have to verbally commit to it and he cannot coerce or badger you into accepting it
