Google your county name. Once you have the website for your county (probably ends in .gov) click on the police or law enforcement link. This should direct you to your local site where you can get crime statistics, sex offender registry, and usually shows what types of crimes and where they are located on Mapquest.
I see that some people also suggested national websites which can be effective but some of the national sites do not update new offenders as frequently. Your county probably has more stringent requirements for updating information.
Also, if someone is being investigated for crimes they will not show up on this list until they are officially determined to be guilty in the courts. I've heard rumors of a Children's Protective Service Registry that lists these people so they don't end up working in schools or daycares until the charges are dismissed. I haven't found it yet but will post it if I do.

Your local county. On line should list sex offenders in your location. Nearly every county has some type of web site with this information. Or go to your local police station and they will tell you, because they have to let the local police know if they are a sex offenders in your area.

That depends. Maybe you could mention where you live? Some police stations make those lists available to the public. It depends a lot on state and local practices.
I would start by contacting your nearest police station, or checking out their Web site.

I usually go to dogpile.com and type in sex offenders list and my state and it gives me what I'm looking for.
