I'm thinkin' a chunky scarf made out of big yarn, nice and soft, really long, y'know, a scarf that I can sink into. Winter's coming, if it isn't already here. From personal experience or just speculation, do you think it'd be easier on the wallet if I knitted my own chunky scarves, or would I save more money buying them from stores like Old Navy, Target, H&M and Forever 21? Thanks in advance. :]

Well, speaking from personal experience (knitting scarves all the time...) I'd say it really depends. Mostly it depends on what the yarn is going to be made out of, chenille yarn, for example is really expensive. It's like eight bucks for one thing of yarn. Then you have to buy the needles (if you don't already have them) which are probably around five bucks since you'll need big ones. You can probably find a scarf for around that much money maybe less at outlet stores and stuff, but that'll take the time and trouble of going to a store. So, it's all up to you. But knitting scarves is pretty fun and if you just need something to do, I'd say knit it. You'll feel a sense of accomplishment when you're done, and you can show off your scarf to your friends and be like, "hey, guys look at the scarf I made I'm so cool." lol.

Nothing compares to creating something with your own 2 hands. I don't knit I crochet. The best part is finding the perfect yarn for what I want to make.

In the stores you are left to what they have picked out for you.

I think it is cheaper, and nicer to knit your own. I work at a craft store and I have seen some of the same yarns we sell at the dollar stores now. You just can't beat those prices.

I would say knitting, since you would be saving money not only on buying a new scarf, but you would also happily occupy time that may be otherwise spent spending additional money on other things.

for me it would be cheaper cuz I would have to take lessons on how to knit and aspirin for my headache, then buy yarn and needles, then buy a new TV cuz I would throw the knitting needles at it, then buy more yarn and needles, then pay the doctor bill cuz I stomped on the needles and broke my foot, then buy more yarn and needles.........................
