For a professional classical look using pencil:

ALWAYS start from the OUTER corner of your eye and move towards the inner corner. Most women make the mistake of doing it from the inner corner to the outer corner but this is bad for your eye muscles.

The line should be slightly thicker on the outer corner and become finer and finer the further in you go. Then use the sponge on the other end of your pencil to smooth it out--you don't want it to look like a line but to blend in finely. If you want to make your eyes look bigger, line the bottom corner of your eye half a millimetre away from your lash line and stop just underneath your eyeball. Then smudge this out to give it a soft look. If you don't want your eyes to look any bigger, line your entire bottom lash line.

Try putting it on your upper lid only and extending it slightly into a cat's eye. You can also do a prettier, lighter smokey eye look - line your upper and lower lids with a gold, shimmery eyeliner and blend.

I put it on the top lid, close to the lash line. I cover about 3/4 of the lid, leaving the inner (closest to nose) 1/4 'empty'. (Shadow and mascara complete the look)

You can find excellent ideas on putting on different kinds of makeup in women's beauty magazines, such as "Self" or "Allure" or "Glamour". I don't use eyeliner myself, since I'm allergic to eye makeup.

From the inner corner of your eye to the outer corner. Put moderate pressure (so as not to hurt yourself and to make sure you get enough liner on) but not so much pressure to smudge it if you are using liquid liner.
