Spybot - Search & Destroy detects and removes spyware, a relatively new kind of threat not yet covered by common anti-virus applications. Spyware silently tracks your surfing behaviour to create a marketing profile for you that is transmitted without your knowledge to the compilers and sold to advertising companies. If you see new toolbars in your Internet Explorer that you haven't intentionally installed, if your browser crashes inexplicably, or if your home page has been "hijacked" (or changed without your knowledge), your computer is most probably infected with spyware. Even if you don't see the symptoms, your computer may be infected, because more and more spyware is emerging. Spybot-S&D is free, so there's no harm giving it a try to see if something has invaded your computer.

You probably have spyware in your system. Here is an excellent state of the art free antispyware program from Austria. This program is A2Squared V2. Will not conflict with any antivirus program or any other antispyware program. I use this program in my pc. http://www.emsisoft.com They will ask you for your email so they can send you a free registration key.

The purchased version that I use has a background scanner and you get automatic updates. The program is free of embedded spyware or trojans.

Some one told you to use http://www.superantispyware.com (This would be an excellent antispyware program, the problem is they have embedded adware in their program. Found it with A2 Squared and http://www.ewido.net This program is out of Prague and becomes free if you don't purchase in thirty days. They will remove the background and the automatic updates. You just update on a manual basis. Will also remove this spyware.

You most likely have a Smitfraud desktop hijacker infection. Most "general purpose" antivirus and antispyware programs cannot touch it, as you may have already found out.

Removal will likely require a semi-manual procedure.

There are 2 widely used procedures:

Using SmitfraudFix:

Using RogueFix:

Smitfraud is a nasty one that is going to require some work on your part. You probably won't find a software that you can download, push a "magic button" and have it just dissapear!

Roll up ya sleaves and get to work!

Good luck.
