Suppose a person choses to live by the pricilple that killing of a human is not justified and ligitimate in any course of action. Then one day a man breaks into his home with the declared intent to kill you and your family. The intruder has a knife and is built like a heavy weight prize fighter. You have a gun. You are by all means justified to kill the intruder if he refuses to back down.

In the course of self defense. If assaulted with deadly force it is appropriate and justifably legitamite to respond with deadly force.
In self defense it is always justifiable to respond with one level higher of violence as a means to subdue someone who is assaulting you.
In offensive military operations thats a whole new level of the violence game. War is hell. There is nothing pretty about it. That we go to war at all is testament to the failures of humanity.
Units and civillian populations are positioned like tools on a chess board. If and whenever possible Enemy soldiers will be taken prisoner and treated humanely as professionals. Those that would use the civillians as cover for guerilla tactics and conduct assaults for ideological purposes have no respect for reality.
Organizations like Hezbollah that consider collateral damages to the Lebanese a victory can go to hell and I'll be one to help them get there.

It depends. if your in a time of war its perfectly legitimate to kill an enemy. however. it only applys to combatants. to run through a civilian village and burn the place and the people to the ground is completley wrong. To kill someone in self defence normaly wouldnt happen enless that someone was going to rape or kill you. even then you'll need something better then mace or a tazer.

In defense of your loved ones, your self or your property. Also people tried and convicted of murder, rape, molestation, armed robbery and even taking advantage of someone mentally or financially.
As far as I'm concerned, if someone lies to me to sell me something or lies to me in a professional setting, I should be able to put his brains on the wall with my .38....but that probably won't make the cut......but I still hate being lied to!
The first part is up for selection and the part about lying is food for thought....

Here in Oklahoma, you can shoot someone who is in your home and threatening your life. It is called Make My Day law and is now voting so you can shoot them in the car, yard, someone elses house, etc. Criminals beware...it is common place now to hear on the news another burglar shot and killed by a homeowner. And no one cares either...its more like good riddance! Its been an effective law- Since the Make My Day Law came into force, burglary has declined by almost half in Oklahoma. We also have concealed weapons laws that make it easy for almost anyone to obtain a permit who wants one.
