There was an answer to a question where the girl said mom jeans shouldn't be worn on a woman under 40. If mom jeans are for moms, why can't moms of all ages wear them? But my original question is what are mom jeans?

The good 'ole mom jeans..I think the person said that mom's under 40 shouldn't wear them b/c they are stereotypically for older, unstylish mothers & my guess is she assumed that a mother at the age of forty is old & unstylish (although, untrue!).

For your original question, I've included a photo of mom jeans...

And here's a hilarious Saturday Night Live skit that explains it all...

Mom jeans can be best understood by watching the SNL skit about them. Basically they are the most unflattering fit jeans, that might be comfortable but are usually comprised of the following: Bad wash or tint, high waist, cut EXTRA wide in the hip, and tapered leg. Basically they are jeans for someone who cares nothing about fashion becuase they are too busy with their sticky kids.

Mom jeans are more relaxed than regular jeans, and are not skin tight like the ones young girls wear to enhance their budding or budded figures. Mom jeans are more practical for women with small children, as they are comfortable and allow the mom to move around better. Moms of all ages can wear them, of course, but the statement made to you was probably just an opinion made by a younger woman or girl who did not wish to identify with the practical side of a mom. Wear whatever you like, whatever is comfortable and stylish, and whatever you feel right wearing, no matter what your age is.

Mom jeans sit above the belly button, have a tapered leg, and make your butt look really long. They are REALLY unflattering to anybody of any age. NO ONE should wear "mom jeans".

"Mom jeans" age a woman drastically.
They are just ill-fitting, baggy, saggy, light colored, out of style circa 1980, jeans.
Horrible....
The high waist, the cropped legs, the poofy tummy fabric, oh the horror.

i am guessing she is referring to the jeans that were wore in the 90s or possible the 80s. Also i would think straight jeans might be for mothers but mostly its a neutral jean for all people.

They are those jeans that have tapered legs and the waist goes all the way up to your throat. :) They make your butt look huge and the emphasize your pooch. (tummy) That's why they should be banded all together.
