In my Leadership textbook, it says that Joe Montana showed a great example of leadership when he took the blame for an issue while in his NFL Career. But the book does not elaborate on what that issue was.

Is there anyone on this site that was familiar with what happened?

Thanks!

Unfortunately, there was only the one sentence about this. "A willingness to take the blame (as defined the legendary football quarterback Joe Montana)." (Dubrin, A.J., Leadership: Research Findings, Practice and Skills, 5th Edition, 2006, p. 3).

It was an incident in the locker room involving a female reporter. he took the blame because he was suppose to be the leader of that team, and it all fell on his shoulders for not having his team under control in that type of situation. It happened after one of their super bowl victories i believe

Good question.

Does the book mention whether the 'issue' involved on-the-field, or team matters? Or does it appear to be something outside of football?

He's had somewhat of a tumultuous personal life...he's been married 3 times. (I say "tumultuous" because he was so unbelievably cool and collected on the football field, it's hard to imagine that he had anything but a perfect home life)...

Hopefully someone else out there might have an idea as to what your book was talking about...

You can read about Montana at Wikipeida, but I don't see anything in the article that might refer to your book's premise:

This page also has a number of links to Montana information... maybe there will be some clues there...

EDIT: Great job Irishfan! Yeah, I kinda remember that now, I don't remember all the details, but this was in the days when women reporters first started to go into the locker room to interview players after a game.
