If you have no access to any ariel route, the railways are by far the best bet for long distances like vashi to marine lines...

As you will see, from the city maps, the fastest way to marine lines from vashi will be via road from vashi to dadar (Bus No. 504 and Bus No. 521) and via rail from dadar to marine lines
An alternate route will be from vashi to bandra via sion/dharavi (Bus No. 505) and from bandra to marine lines via rail.
Another alternate route will be from vashi to kurla, from kurla to dadar and from dadar to marine lines by rail. You can book the ticket to marine lines from vashi railway station itself and swtich trains at the above mentioned stations to get there.
If you do not get sea sick, you can come from vashi to mumbai cst by boat and from mumbai cst to marine lines by bus or shared taxi.
All the above routes are practical
