I recommend reading the books "Bury My Heart At Wounded Knee: An Indian History of the American West, Follow the River
By James Alexander Thom .... the stories will stay with you long after you've finished the books. True stories are better!
You can watch the movie "Follow The River" but it's soo far from what Mary Ingles went through... read the book first and then watch the movie.

the new world was pretty good, also there is mel gibsons apocalipto that is coming out, that is about the Mayans which are a central american indian tribe, honestly native americans don't have the budget to produce big hollywood films, you may try to look under a specific tribal nation's website and contact someone for a recomendation. for example the cherokee nation website is www.cherokee.org. Hope this helps... good luck.

Encore is showing a movie about Geromino this week, starring Wes Stubin and Jason Patric, Gene Hackman, Robert Duvall. It is pretty good . I think the correct title is Geromino, An American Legend. He is buried at Ft. Sill, Ok, and this story is about his life.

The Last of the Mohicans. I watched it back in the eighth grade. It's very suspenseful (and lots of gore, I'm warning you) and great for you to watch only if you're a history freak like me. My other classmates hate history and snored away during the whole movie. They say it's boring but for me, it's not coz' I love history!

There is a made-for-cable film about Geronimo that has a cast comprised of all native Americans. As I remember it, it was pretty good. Maybe it's on DVD.
Good luck!

Look up Black Indians or click here. Many are not aware they exist and it's quite a fascinating documentary.
