A comedian I was watching on TV claimed that while she was touring with a show for our soldiers in that country she learned that the native people wipe their anus's with nothing but their hands. Is this true? I would dismiss this as her attempt to get a laugh, but I have heard similarly disghusting things about other countries in that region. Can anyone elaborate?

Yes in some regions this is true.I was there with the military and this was very common...but put it into context...they don`t have toilets or toilet paper and for some they never have so it would be natural for them to do this. They also will squat anywhere when they need to go...it is such an extreme poverty in some places...no there are no leaves, paper or clothing of any sort..the clothes on their backs is all they have. In other parts of Kabul i saw kids in uniforms going to school, and in the richer sections it would be hard to tell them from a westerner.

Yes it is true, I have been there a couple of times now and they do with there left hand. They do however wash there hand afterwards. Pretty bad I know never eat any food they prepare for you or you will get very sick.

sure in most of the countries "over there" they have two toilets on the hotel bathrooms. one is a bidet. it has the water spray up to clean your bottom after you go.... then the folks wash their hands well afterwards. the paper thing is more and english type and european type take on cleanliness

the important thing is that they wash their hands before they make bombs. you wouldnt want to give a nasty infection to the innocent victims of your terrorist device. remember, in islam as well as christianity, cleanliness is next to godliness!
