Do not just look at hostels Travel lodge do a super saver special and you could land up spending as little as 15 pounds per room a night! the catch om this is that you have to book on line and its not refundable! How ever its a really good deal! You get a hotel at hostel prices! En suite double room! So I suggest you look at all you options! Have a great time when you go!!

I would book online a couple of months early (usally a month is adequate but in the summer all hostel prices go up for the US seasonal visitors) You will be amazed at how nmuch cheaper the hostels will cost if you book a couple months ahead (or more).

London has so many hostels it is hard to tell you which is best, in general the "St. Christophers" hostels are good and there are several of those throughout London in some really neat neighborhoods. I personally like the "Smart" hostels (there are three in London) they offer private room from 35 dollars or so in great locations. To get on overview of London hostels, use the map on Twizi.com (link below).

If you want HI hostels, try http://www.yha.org.uk/ or http://www.hostels.com/ if you want independant hostels. Smooth Hounds Systems http://www.smoothhound.co.uk/ is a directory of guesthouses.
