We need to look at this situation in a pragmatic way.

It means logical or practical. You could also say, "I'm trying to be pragmatic about this."

Do you know someone who does things in a regular, systematic way? Like they always fill the gas tank, check the oil, wash the windshield, wipe the headlights--in the same order time after time? Or they go about balancing their checkbook on the same day of every week at the same time in the same manor? Or cut the grass in the same pattern?

These people work in a pragmatic way. Do you do anything in a pragmatic way? Do you spend Sunday nights pragmatically finishing your homework?

Pragmatic means using what ever works. Children often come up with pragmatic solutions to their problems like "kiss it and make it go away, Mommy" or "I will pick up my room for a quarter!" Parents also become pragmatic when reason fails and just give the kid the quarter to get the room picked up.
