It sounds like your computer is fried.
Things you can do:
1) Use your local library's computers. People survived without home computers for ages. Are you attending college? Use the lab's computers.
2) Go to a used computer store. You can usually get a decent tower for under $200.

Did this happen in your house? It should be covered by insurance. Just take the unit to your local computer store and ask them to check it out. Most companies will give you a free estimate (Any legitimate one) on replacement. Take that to your insurance company. Hopefully you have full replacement coverage. If its fried and the computer is outdated then they will replace it with a updated version of the PC within reason. Also if you talk to your insurance company you can get a check sent to the PC store and use it towards a better unit or laptop etc.

Yes i think your computer is ruined but you should take it to a computer technician just to be sure ,look for them in your phone book P.S. As a safety measure you should plug all of your computer and electronic equipment into a surge protector because MOST OF THEM are designed to withstand and shut down when there is a power surge, if you don't know what a surge protector is it is one of those bars that has about five outlets on it so that you can plug a bunch of stuff in all at the same time

normally, new type of internal/pci modem will melt when strike by lightning. in many cases, the pc can still work. due to power surge from lightning, your OS maybe corrupted. try to repair your OS first. you still have at least 70% chance to save your pc. if you are using winXP, boot your pc with winXP cd, use the 2nd repair option (the 1st option using a console screen).

Well, you could try ordering a new motherboard, hard drive, and CPU and installing those in your present case. But as far as repair goes for the existing unit, you're pretty much out of luck. Sorry.

does the hard drive spin up? sounds like the computer is toast. try maybe sticking a spare harddrive in it to see if you can get an OS to run before you toss it. future reference, they make surge protectors that also protect your phone line
