LOL, yes, I was actually the one driving... It was awful. A big 12 point buck flew into my car -- he leaped in front of me on a drive up to Alpena, MI. I had just enough time to think "OH how beautiful -- ooohhhhhhh crap !" Knocked out the drivers window, but could have been worse. The worst part was a driver following me got out and put the deer down with a sledge hammer. Had to be done.

Yes it was a bird the first time and it was horrible. I had to pull over and cry. The next time was a very weird morning. I was driving to the beach at about 5:30am and I hit a bird. That was bad enough, then I hit a bat. Then - I'm serious here - pretty much every single bird I came across threw themselves in front of my car. It's like all birds were on a suicide mission that morning. I only hit the bird and the bat, but I clipped a couple more birds. This was all in the space of about 45 minutes. Probably the most stressful swerve-filled drive of my life.

Squirrels and snakes and other little things trying to cross the road, fortunately nothing too big. But I had a friend who hit someone's dog on a dark road, and a lady was late to our French class's party on time 'cause she hit a deer. I was thinking, "big deal.....it made her an HOUR late?!" And then I saw her car!! OMG! The entire front end was demolished. She's lucky the engine wasn't in her lap! I relayed the incident to my Dad, who was a Highway Patrol officer, and my amazement that that creature could do that much damage. He said that sadly, he'd seen first hand that a human body being hit at that speed will do that much damage as well..... everyone, be careful!

Yes. my first one was a little dog. I was 14 years old driving a car I had borrowed from my brothers friend without asking. I couldnt stop. I saw it in the rear view mirror with its little legs in the air struggling. I'll never forget it.
The next animal I hit was a squirrel that suddenly ran out into the road.
The last one was a baby duck. It's mother was taking her brood across a busy road. A semi was coming from the other direction and the baby duck freaked and ran in front of me. I heard the thump. In the rear view mirror I saw one of the other baby ducks run to its aid.

I was 17 and I hit a rabbit and was mortified.
My friend however was in a serious and horrid accident, She hit a horse on a dark road and it caused a serious crash and as the car was spinning, the car hit the baby colt as well. [killing all the animals] It broke her arm, her Mom's nose and totalled the car. It was a miracle another car was on the road and helped them.
Ironically the horse owners were sued for damages. So they lost there pets and had to pay for their damages as well.

I have to come to a screeching hault when something is in the road that i can see but i have ran over a cat before that came from nowhere. I got out scooped it up and took it to the vet clinic at the university because it was still breathing and i couldn't just leave it there.

I hit a bird that flew down in front of my car while I was driving on the expressway (strange that I've never hit any ambulatory animals, but have hit a bird in flight).

I like how you originally worded it. It made me laugh :)
Anyway, I think that squirrels jump into the street as suicide attempts. Too many of them get run over and those are the only animals I see running into the street at the EXACT TIME that a car is coming.
