What might the consequences be for a zygote resulting from the union of such gametes?

As I recall, you get trisomy of one chromosome (three copies instead of two). The effect depends on which chromosome. Trisomy 21 is Down Syndrome. Trisomy 18 is fairly well known (can't remember the name). As a general rule, the closer a chromosome is to 1, the worse the effect, and the more likely the embryo will abort. So, trisomy 3 isn't likely to live, but trisomy 21 has better outcomes.
