i am going on holidays and my period will happen at that time. if i start taking birth control now will it prevent me from getting my period. I'm not worried about getting pregnant as i have my tubes tied. I just don't want my period while I'm away.

Yes. If you start your active birth control pills now, the most you will get is some spotting for your period. Most likely you wont get anything at all. If you are already on bc just skip the inactive pills.

No birth control will not stop you from having your periods..Birth control is to help get your periods on the right track that way every month you will have it about the same time..

Now I'm no medical expert, but if you begin taking Ortho-Tricyclen and you do not take the placebos you will not have your period. You didn't say when you were going on vacation, so I don't know if it will kick in by that time.

I think it would work, but ask your doctor, since you'll have to see him anyway to get the prescription.
