I'm not here for points. I only give thumbs down when someone is truly offensive, not because I disagree with them. If someone breaks the rules of the guidelines, I'll give thumbs down. I NEVER use foul language, or insult anyone--yet two of my questions were removed by Yahoo--& I can only speculate that someone sent an "abuse" report (on what basis?) & that's that.
If I were here for points, I'd give an answer the questioner would LOVE whether I agreed or not, or simply answer silly one liners.
YES. I would still give thumbs down for above reasons. Interesting question! Why are we really here? I would hope, to help when we can, & the other plus is to see the diversity of the human condition..

YES, i would, i rarely give thumbs down and if i do, you can be sure the person gave a really offending answer. i mostly give thumbs up for great answers in the hope that the answerer might feel better if they see that someone else agrees w/ them even if they didnt get the 10 points.

there are tons of really great answers out there; too bad some raters seem to favor their friends' rather than what's really best. i hope the thumbs up rating compensates somehow, especially if they get several thumbs up's as opposed to thumbs down given to the undeserving best answers.

This is an interesting question! I would probably not give a thumbs up or down if that is the way they wanted to be.

It depends on how offensive the question is. So, yes, I would give a thumbs down even if it meant lost points.

Yup. There are som real creeps out there. It would be better if both the one giving the thumbs down, and the one being thumbed would both lose points.
