Anyone know what that thing is called that ink is in. In the past when things were written using a quill and ink, I know that the container holding the ink is called something specific but I can't remember. Please, anyone know? It's for a story.

when I went to school it was called an ink well. There was a hole in our desk that was used to hold our ink bottle and it was called the ink well

Yes, it is called an inkwell. In British literature it is also referred to as an inkpot.

they're right--it's an inkwell. you can also use the term ink pot.
